What's the point of him? I really appreciate how Gaiman kept it very close to the original material, but I can't imagine what someone who hasn't read it would think of the show.I watched the first episode and thought it was boring.

Happily, Neil Gaiman's series Good Omens was everything I had hoped (the book was co-written in 1990 by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett who sadly died in 2015 - Gaiman wrote the series on his own). )Also, the female narrator bugs me for some reason. The narrator is annoying, even though McDormund usually shinesI haven't watched the show yet, but the novel is very funny and a pleasure to read.In the show's defense, "choppy and … [not sure] what it wants to be" is a fair criticism of the original novel. Barely any scenes are given time to breathe; it feels like every scene is a hurried smash cut to the next scene. The question though is how long will they keep following the book before they decide to be all "creative" and go off course....like The Walking Dead....Game of Thrones and so on have done.Good to hear! Wow.Having not read the novel, I can't compare.
A lot of the jokes from the book are absent, but the ones they put in are just kinda rushed. Her, not so muchSeems like they're following the plot, but forgetting the humor.
Maybe the editing or pacing. It is following the plot fairly closely, but they're shuffling some of the scenes around and added a few characters (like Gabriel.

And Queen's Greatest Hits, which was sort of an Easter egg for fans of the book because I don't recall them ever explaining it.It did remind me of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film a lot, though, for better and for worse. There are little homages to the classics... Adam reading in bed with a flashlight is framed just like Kevin from Time Bandits, Aziraphale as a gardener is made up exactly like the village idiots from Monty Python. Tickets for the show included the option to purchase a signed copy of Gaiman's new publication of the script “The Quite Nice and Fairly Accurate Good Omens Script Book” for £20 (which I took advantage of) though there were limited copies. From what I have seen so far and remember from the book, they are following the plot fairly close and not taking the stupid liberties that usually ruin this sort of thing. In contrast I am having a hard time finding motivation to keep watching American Gods.Had so much potential and had all the right parts but just poorly executed.
